Two Los Angeles men who were traveling in a vehicle with a dead body when they were pulled over in Kern County have been arrested on suspicion of murder, among other crimes.

Manpreet Sidhu, 39, and Ben Barness, 24, are being held without bail and are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, sheriff's officials said.

On Tuesday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding on Highway 65 near James Road and discovered it had been reported stolen, according to sheriff's officials.

The officer requested assistance from the CHP and Kern County Sheriff's Office. After detaining Sidhu and Barness, officers found a dead man in a passenger seat, sheriff's officials said. The man, whose name has not been released, appeared to have suffered an injury.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Kern County Sheriff's Office at 861-3110 or the Secret Witness Line at 322-4040.
