Two people have been arrested in the theft of a storage trailer that belongs to a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, sheriff's officials said Monday.

The theft occurred Friday at the La Quinta Inn on Spectrum Parkway in Bakersfield, according to deputies. The victim was traveling to his new duty station when he stopped in Bakersfield to visit a longtime friend and another Marine.

All of his belongings — including several firearms — were in the trailer, deputies said.

Later Friday, a woman was caught on Walmart surveillance video making transactions with the victim’s stolen bank card and fleeing in a white Cadillac Escalade.

Sheriff’s deputies identified the woman from previous law enforcement contacts as Sydney Leanne Waldo, 19, of Bakersfield, and released photos of her asking for the public’s assistance.

On Sunday, a deputy spotted a stolen vehicle matching the description of the one in which Waldo was seen leaving the Walmart. The occupants, Waldo and Andrew Darren Crain, 24, were both arrested, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies then served search warrants in the 1500 block of Ester Drive and the 8000 block of Mills Drive, both in Bakersfield, and located the Marine’s stolen property. The belongings have been returned to him.
