A junior high teacher charged with sex crimes involving minors allegedly met one of the victims in her classroom before school began and engaged in sex acts, according to court filings.
Vanessa Jean Hooker, 34, has pleaded not guilty to five felonies in the case. Three former students — a 14-year-old and two 16-year-olds — were her alleged victims, the criminal complaint states.
Hooker posted bond on the $200,000 bail set Tuesday by Judge Michael G. Bush during her arraignment. She was out of custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
Kern County sheriff’s investigators received a report Dec. 15 that a teacher at Beardsley Junior High School had been involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a former student, sheriff's officials said. Detectives identified three male victims and arrested Hooker on Friday.
The complaint states that text messages sent between Hooker and the victims back up the allegations.
Hooker has been ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victims or with anyone under the age of 18 with the exception of her own children.
Her next court hearing is Jan. 25.
