Officers arrested a 41-year-old man Wednesday who led police on a short pursuit after he opened fire on another man, police officials said.

The other man was not struck by the gunfire.

The suspect, Hekima Perry, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, firearms violations, evading arrest and participating in a criminal street gang.

Officers attempted to stop Perry after they heard gunshots at about 4:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Northrup Street, but he drove away. He later collided with a fence and was arrested.
