A Baker Street store was closed down last week after health inspectors found a "severe vermin infestation" with mouse and rat feces scattered in a back room and in front of the store.

Mufeed's Discount and Tobacco, at 830 Baker St., was closed down Friday by the Kern County Department of Public Health after failing an inspection. The report by Public Health also noted that torn flooring was spotted throughout the facility.

The store reopened Monday following another inspection in which it received a passing score of 85. The business was told that flooring needs replacing and the premises must be kept free and clean of debris and litter.

Another business, Market Buy, in the 1800 block of 18th Street, was closed Thursday after failing an inspection during which a "significant" leak was coming from the ceiling and the operator "failed to demonstrate the basic knowledge of food safety principles and sanitation."
