Bakersfield police arrested a 30-year-old felon Wednesday who stole a vehicle and led officers on a pursuit throughout East Bakersfield, police officials said.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, Porfirio Fonseca Jr., was charged on suspicion of grand theft auto, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading arrest, hit and run and reckless driving.

The pursuit began when officers attempted to stop Fonseca at about 9:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Baker Street. The driver fled, leading police on a pursuit throughout east Bakersfield that included at least one collision ,with a parked car.

A Kern County Sheriff’s Air Unit responded and took over the pursuit.

Fonseca then abandoned his vehicle and was picked up by another car, police said.

Officers stopped that car and took Fonseca into custody.
