A pedestrian suffered major injuries after being struck by a vehicle in southeast Bakersfield Wednesday evening.

Police said a man was hit by a vehicle in the 700 block of Panama Lane and was taken to a local hospital, where he was in critical condition. 

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, police said. It didn't appear drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the collision.

The incident was reported at about 9:45 p.m.
