A month after a warrant was issued for his arrest, Deon Davison was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with accidentally shooting a 14-year-old boy in Rosamond last year.
Davison surrendered Tuesday at the Kern County Sheriff's Office Mojave substation, deputies said. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter and is being held on $25,000.
Davison was handling a shotgun in an apartment in the 2600 block of 25th Street on Sept. 18 when the gun discharged, striking Al McCraig, deputies said. McCraig was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Davison and a 16-year-old in the apartment initially told sheriff's investigators McCraig had been holding the shotgun when it fired, deputies said. But investigators determined it would have been impossible for McCraig to shoot himself the way the others described the incident.
Evidence at the scene, witness statements and findings from an autopsy resulted in the McCraig's death being ruled a homicide.
