A man is in critical condition after getting seriously injured in a car accident on Tuesday.

The Bakersfield Police Department said that at 9:22 a.m., officers were sent to the intersection of New Stine and Wilson Road after getting report of a collision in the area. Officers found two vehicles at the scene, with one of the drivers suffering major injuries.

Firefighters with the Bakersfield Fire Department had to use Jaws of Life equipment to get the man out of the vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The department said a Dodge Challenger was heading eastbound on Wilson Road and a Toyota truck was heading northbound on New Stine Road when one of the drivers failed to stop at a red light at the intersection and the vehicles collided.

The driver of the Challenger was not injured in the accident, police said. The case is still under investigation.
