A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Sunday in Delano.

The Delano Police Department said two officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in an alleyway in the 2200 block of Norwalk Street when the vehicle suddenly started accelerating toward one of the officers. The department said the officer fired his gun at the driver.

Police said the driver was struck and killed. A passenger that had been in the vehicle then took off and went into a nearby residence. The passenger was arrested after about an hour of negotiations.

The two officers who were involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, the department said.The case is being investigated by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
