Julian Escamilla has been convicted on various charges relating to child molestation, according to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

Escamilla was convicted by a jury on Friday of committing a lewd act on a child under 14 as well as forcing oral copulation and sexually penetrating a child under 14. Escamilla was also charged with kidnapping.

The DA’s Office said that on May 10, 2017, a 12-year-old girl was at Planz Park when she was approached by Escamilla, who forcefully grabbed her arm when she attempted to leave. The office said Escamilla then took her to a secluded area of the park, where he subsequently assaulted her.

The DA’s Office said Escamilla could face a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. His sentencing hearing is on April 24.
