Officers arrested a man and a woman Wednesday after stopping their vehicle and finding a loaded firearm and body armor, police said.

During the course of the arrest, one of the passengers, 36-year-old Michael Fritz, attempted to assault an officer with a hypodermic needle, officers said in a news release.

He was arrested on multiple felony charges, including assault on a police officer, felon in possession of body armor, firearm- and gang-related charges. Mary Ochoa, 39, who was also in the car, was arrested for stolen property possession, conspiracy and firearms charges.

Officers were unarmed during the arrest.
