During a routine traffic stop conducted by officers of the Bakersfield Police Department on Saturday night, a vehicle passenger ran and threw a loaded firearm to the ground, according to a BPD news release. 

BPD conducted the traffic stop in the 300 block of S. Union Ave. at approximately 7:03 p.m., the release said. 

The passenger, later identified as Andwele Shabazz, 26, was charged with firearms violations and resisting arrest, the BPD release said. 

The firearm was recovered by the BPD, according to the release.
