Bakersfield firefighters worked to control a blaze on Mt Vernon Avenue Sunday evening that consumed a commercial office building and did more than $700,000 in damage, fire officials reported

The fire sparked at about 5:45 p.m. at an office building that housed two insurance companies and a tax preparation service at 3801 Mt. Vernon Avenue.

The incident lasted almost eight hours and involved two dozen firefighters, according to a Bakersfield Fire Department news release.

Arson investigators determined it was an electrical fire caused by accident.
