The death of a woman who ran in front of a vehicle driven by an off-duty Kern County sheriff's deputy in Rosamond earlier this month has been ruled a suicide.

Lynda Lee Tipton, 38, was struck at 4:55 a.m. April 7 on Tehachapi Willow Springs Road, south of Hamilton Road, according to a coroner's release. She died about 4 1/2 hours later at Antelope Valley Hospital.

Tipton was hit shortly after dispatchers received a call of a "distraught and possible suicidal" female in the 4700 block of Tehachapi Willow Springs Road, sheriff's officials said. The reporting party said the female was screaming and tried running in front of a passing vehicle.

The deputy was heading to work when the crash occurred.
