DMV investigators issued citations to five Bakersfield residents caught fraudulently displaying disabled person parking placards on their vehicles. 

Offenders must appear in court and face possible fines ranging from $250 to $1,000, according to a DMV news release. The citations were issued Jan. 23.

According to the release, the DMV issued 1,511 citations statewide from July 1 to Jan. 1.
