A body found Dec. 2 inside a vehicle submerged in the Kern River has been identified as that of a 51-year-old woman who went missing months earlier, according to a coroner's release.
Lisa Gail Harvey, of Ventura, died of multiple injuries and her death was an accident, the coroner's release said. She was identified through dental records.
Harvey was driving from Ventura to Lake Isabella to visit a cousin late April 29 when she disappeared. Law enforcement was notified the next day, and a search began but turned up nothing. Months passed without Harvey's family finding anything new regarding her disappearance.
Then, a person who had been scavenging along the Kern River just a couple of miles above Upper Richbar Campground called the Sheriff's Office and reported finding a bag connected to Harvey.
Sheriff's officials drove to that spot in the canyon, climbed down the steep 100-foot wall of the canyon to the river and spotted a car, flipped onto its roof and completely submerged. The car, Harvey's Toyota Solara, was pulled from the river Dec. 2.
