Kern County Sheriff's Office deputies, acting on information from the Mohave County, Ariz., Sheriff's Office, went to check the welfare of a 75-year-old Tehachapi woman early Wednesday. The Arizona agency had reported that Matthew Jensen, 50, may have killed his mother.

Deputies indeed found the woman, Barbara Jensen Teague, dead inside her residence in the 19900 block of Luana Drive, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Homicide detectives were called to the scene.

Investigators determined that Jensen may in fact have killed his mother, though his motive was unknown. An arrest warrant was issued in California and Jensen was taken into custody in Arizona. Jensen was transported to an Arizona hospital to receive medical care and will be booked into an Arizona jail pending extradition.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Kern County Sheriff's Office at 861-3110.
