The body of a woman found in the Kern River Canyon on Friday has been positively identified by family members as Shayla Keys Wingle, 39, who was reported missing the previous weekend.

Kern County Sheriff's Office investigators said Wingle was last seen on Presidents Day weekend when she and her husband stopped about three miles east of Highway 178 on Old Kern Canyon Road. Authorities said the couple experienced car trouble and their vehicle ended up in a ditch.

According to the family's GoFundMe account, Shayla Wingle's body was found by Search and Rescue personnel along the Kern River, east of the initial search area.

As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, the Kern County Coroner's Office had not officially identified Wingle.

Anyone with information is asked to call the KCSO at 861-3110.
