Also, today's lead story in the sports section of The Californian is of two cousins seeking first-time state medals this weekend. Give it a read.
We also have a breakdown of the top seed in each weight class and watch to watch for.
8:33 a.m. - Just informed that Tony DaCosta from Torrance, the No. 3 seed at heavyweight, did not make weigh-ins this morning. Have also been told the bracket will not be changed much, other than No. 4 Josh Taranogo of Anaheim-Canyon moving into the third seed to avoid being on same side as No. 1 Seth Nevills of Clovis.
8:23 p.m. - We have some breaking news to release.
The CIF State office has informed The Californian that the state boys and girls state wrestling championships will be combined over a three-day event starting in 2019 at Rabobank Arena.
The announcement also means the three-day event will be a week earlier than normal for the boys championship.
The dates in 2019 will be Feb. 21-23.
CIF senior director Brian Seymour stated that the current contract with Rabobank Arena runs through 2020, which means the combined state will be Feb. 27-29 in 2020.
The girls state championships has been held at the Visalia Convention Center and ran the last weekend of February.
Details of exactly how the combined state championships will be run has yet to be announced.
"But it's going to be 1.008 wrestlers coming to Bakersfield," Seymour said. "That's pretty cool."
7:55 a.m. - This blog will run throughout the day until the last match ends and will be back again for championship day on Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.
