Police checkpoint results in dozens of citations, arrests

The Bakersfield Police Department screened 1,063 vehicles at a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint from 6 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday, according to a release from the department.

The checkpoint, in the 400 block of California Avenue, resulted in a felony arrest on an outstanding warrant, 69 citations for driving without a license, 28 citations for driving on a suspended or revoked license and 19 citations for miscellaneous vehicle code violations, the release stated.
Three drivers were cited and released for outstanding warrants, one arrest was made for public intoxication, and seven motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. In addition, 104 vehicles were impounded.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Administration.
