The city of Queretaro, Mexico, which has more than a million residents, doesn’t have a single automated external defibrillator, or AED.

Our readers recommend:

Hall Ambulance will change that this week when they donate two of the electronic devices, used to re-establish a normal heart rhythm, to the city. Hall Ambulance Medical Director Dennis Martinez, paramedic field supervisor and training coordinator Brent Burton and EMT Dave Taylor leave Sunday for the city and will spend a week training firemen and others who give medical aid.

The AEDs, which cost roughly between $2,200 to $2,500 each, are a key piece of equipment in saving lives, Burton said.

“It’s another piece of equipment for the chain of survival,” Burton said.

It’s likely the AEDs will get a lot of use. About 90 percent of the calls for medical service in the city are for trauma.

This will be the third year that Hall employees have made the trip to Queretaro.
