The fire began about 12:17 p.m. in a garage at 2400 Blade Ave., firefighters said. The first firefighters to arrive reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage of the single-family residence.

While working on the garage fire, firefighters spotted smoke coming from the attic of the residence, firefighters said. Both the garage fire and the fire growing in the attic were under control in 10 minutes.

There was a total of $125,000 in damage, but firefighters were able to save the house’s furnishings by placing heavy waterproof covers over them. No one was injured.

An arson unit was investigating the cause of the blaze.
