Bakersfield No. 8 in nation for foreclosures

The Bakersfield metro area’s foreclosure rate is the eighth highest among the nation’s largest 230 metropolitan areas, according to a report released today by Irvine-based real estate data firm RealtyTrac.

The area, which includes all of Kern County, had one foreclosure filing for every 118 households in June, RealtyTrac reports. Kern was one of seven California regions listed in the study’s top 10.

Stockton was No. 1, with one foreclosure filing for every 72 households.

RealtyTrac uses default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions to calculate foreclosure rates.

Nationwide, foreclosure filings decreased 3 percent compared with last month, but remained up 53 percent from a year ago.
