“The Fox,” Bakersfield classic rock radio station KDFO-FM, returns Friday to its previous frequency — 98.5 megahertz — as part of a switch with sister station KBKO-FM, “Bakersfield Country,” which may soon sell and change formats.

The changes are part of owner Clear Channel Communications Inc.’s plan to sell off stations in 41 markets nationwide, and follows a reverse switch about five months ago, Clear Channel Radio Bakersfield’s general manager, Jim Bell, said Thursday.

At 10 a.m. Friday The Fox is to move from 96.5 to 98.5, and Bakersfield Country is to go from 98.5 to 96.5, Bell said. No other format or frequency changes are expected among Clear Channel’s six local AM and FM stations, he said.

The expected buyer of KBKO-FM, Los Angeles-based Lotus Broadcasting, owns some two dozen stations in California, Arizona and Nevada — including two AM and two FM stations in Bakersfield.

The company’s Bakersfield general manager, Mike Allen, said no decision has been made on what format to make the station, which he said could sell by mid-August.

“We don’t know,” he said. “It could be Spanish or English.”
