Stanley Hahn, 44, and John Joseph Green, 28, had an initial court appearance Monday in Idaho in connection with the April 5 death of 44-year-old Douglas Halpin of Meridian, a community of 75,000 people west of Boise.

Hahn and Green are also charged with second-degree kidnapping, which in this case means holding a person against his will, Meridian Police Lt. Tracy L. Basterrechea said.

Halpin was found dead and tied up in his own home on April 6, Basterrechea said. The coroner listed the cause of death as asphyxia from the beating.

The Bakersfield men are friends with the victim’s girlfriend, 41-year-old Karen La Nae Miller, whom both men met in Bakersfield, the lieutenant said.

Miller is charged with second-degree kidnapping and accessory to a felony in the case. She is due back in court on Wednesday.

Hahn turned himself into Bakersfield police on April 10, and Green was arrested by Bakersfield police April 13 in the 1900 block of South M Street, officers said.

Both were taken to the Ada County Jail in Boise where they are being held without bail, jail officials said.

The two men will return to court May 29 for a review of their file by a judge, an Ada County court clerk said.

The clerk could not determine if the men have entered a plea.

Hahn was convicted of several misdemeanors in 2005 and 2003, according to Kern County court records.

Green has also been convicted of several misdemeanors in 2007 and 2006, according to Kern County court records.
