Just before 4 a.m. Sunday morning, Bakersfield police officers responded to Memorial Hospital to check out a shooting victim, according to a BPD news release.

Jerry Hastings, 19, of Bakersfield was suffering from a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. The wound is considered life-threatening, the release said.
But later in the day, Memorial Hospital said the teen had been discharged.
According to an initial BPD investigation, the victim had been shot while on foot on South H Street, south of Panama Lane.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
