Tehachapi teacher on leave after disciplining eighth-grader

A middle school teacher in the Tehachapi Unified School District accused of battery on a student is on paid administrative leave.

On May 1, the teacher disciplined an eighth grade student for sitting improperly in a school bus seat, said district superintendent Richard Swanson. The student felt uncomfortable about what happened on the bus and contacted school officials.
Swanson did not know more details about the incident. The Tehachapi Police Department is investigating the allegations.
The teacher does not have any history of misconduct, Swanson said.
