A speeding motorcyclist in Lake Isabella found that out Thursday evening as he reached speeds of up to 140 mph trying to evade Kern County sheriff’s deputies.
He abandoned his Kawasaki motorcycle at a campground called Keyesville and tried to hide in a lakeside cave, deputies said.
But deputies used a police dog to track him to the cave.
The suspect, identified as Michael Brian Reilly, 22, refused to come out, deputies said.
So the dog went in. Reilly sustained dog bites and was taken to a local hospital for treatment before he was booked into jail, deputies said.
The incident began at 6 p.m. when a California Highway Patrol officer saw a motorcycle speeding on Highway 178 near Lake Isabella.
The motorcyclist went into the township of Lake Isabella where deputies followed him to a gas station and tried to stop him there.
But he pulled away, driving on the wrong side of the road and then sped at more than 100 mph trying to get away, deputies said.
Reilly was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, driving on a suspended license and several other vehicle code charges. He was booked into the Ridgecrest jail in lieu of posting $28,000 bail.
