Who, me? Yes, you! A stunned Thelma Chapman reacts as she hears her named announced as the Jim Burke Education Foundation's high school Teacher of the Year Tuesday evening. Chapman is an English and literacy teacher at Bakersfield High School.

Brenda Hallum gets a kiss from her husband, Larry Hallum, as she is recognized at the Jim Burke Education Foundation's Teacher of the Year Tuesday night. Larry was the foundation's first Teacher of the Year, in 1996 as a teacher at Arvin High. Brenda is a language arts teacher at Earl Warren Junior High. Twenty-five high school and middle school educators from throughout the county were nominated. In addition, more than $17,000 was distributed by the foundation to educational programs, community mini-grants and college scholarships.
