Man shot but tries to run from police

A Bakersfield man was shot multiple times, but he still tried to run from the police, officers reported.

Police responded Monday at 6:38 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the area of Fifth and Eye streets.

Jason Rodriguez, 23, of Bakersfield tried to run away but he was caught a short distance later.

Police determined that Rodriguez had been in the 500 block of Eye Street when a green compact sedan occupied by several males approached him.

An occupant of the car fired several shots. The car fled east on Fifth Street and north on Chester Avenue.

Rodriguez was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
