BCSD board OKs plan to cut 100 jobs, lay off 46

The Bakersfield City School District board Tuesday approved a plan to cut 100 positions including clerks and library assistants, spokesman Steve Gabbitas said.

This is an annual event, a district statement said, because of funding changes, grant expirations or program changes. Fewer positions were cut this year than in the past two years, the district said. About 46 employees will be laid off.

The district is preparing for a $9.4 million revenue loss for the 2008-09 school year compared with this year.
