Murder suspect James Arthur Wyatt, 60, the boyfriend of the 44-year-old victim Lora Louise Shine, is an automotive technology professor at the college, an administrator confirmed Monday.

Wyatt’s status at the college has not changed pending further review, said Brock McMurray, vice president of student services.

The college is covering his classes in the meantime, McMurray said.

Wyatt and Justin Ennis, 21, were booked into jail Friday on suspicion of murder and conspiracy charges. Brian Bales, 21, was booked into jail on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact.

Shine died from suffocation, the Kern County coroner’s staff reported Monday. The autopsy was completed late Friday.

Ennis, in a jail interview Saturday, said Shine was hog-tied with plastic tie downs and she had duct tape over her mouth. It could not be determined Monday if the tape also covered her nose.

Police reported that Shine was left in an upstairs bedroom Thursday night for several hours before she was discovered dead. The home is in the 3500 block of Trojes Avenue near Wible Road and Panama Lane.

Wyatt told police Ennis killed her. Ennis told news reporters Wyatt killed her, though Ennis said both he and Wyatt tied her up.

Ennis said Wyatt frequently tied her up after alcohol-induced fights.
