Tony Lacava is The Californian's Sports Editor. Prior to that, he was Business Editor and Assistant Sports Editor.

Lacava was born and raised in Orange County and moved to Bakersfield as a senior in high school. He graduated from Bakersfield High in 1980, Bakersfield College in 1982 and Fresno State University in 1985.

Lacava worked part time for The Californian from 1980 to 1982 while he attended Bakersfield High and Bakersfield College. He was hired on as a full-time sportswriter in 1985 after graduating from Fresno State. He became Prep Sports Editor in 1986, Assistant Sports Editor in 1993, Business Editor in 1998 and Sports Editor in 2001.

He has two daughters, Lauren and Carrie. In addition to spending time with his daughters, Lacava enjoys playing sports, bodysurfing and working outdoors.
