Steve Mullen has been editor of The Californian's Eye sections since October 2003.
Mullen came to The Californian in May 2001 as an assistant city editor. He was editor of the Business section for two years before becoming features editor.
Mullen was born in California but grew up in Mississippi, which is very much like the Central Valley except with far more rain, trees and mosquitoes.
Prior to his move back west, Mullen worked at The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss., where he was a copy editor and assistant metropolitan editor. He was also a reporter and news editor for The Oxford Eagle in Oxford, Miss., and editor of SouthVine, a news and entertainment flier. He has received various industry awards for reporting and page design.
Mullen graduated in 1992 from the University of Mississippi.
