Previously she was an assistant city editor working with a team of reporters covering education, neighborhoods and general assignment stories, and she coordinated the religion section. Also at The Californian, she has reported on education, crime and public safety, and served as a copy editor.

Before joining The Californian in 1997, she was a reporter at The Orange County Register, where she reported on crime, cities and neighborhood issues. She is a graduate of Santa Clara University.
