A pair of major crashes, including one that reportedly claimed the lives of four people, has tied up highways 99, 58 and 65 on Saturday morning.
The first crash, involving a tanker truck, happened at 4:03 a.m. on the southbound side of Highway 99 at Highway 65. The California Highway Patrol reported the crash caused the tanker truck to catch fire, leading to the closure of the freeway in both directions. At 8 a.m., the CHP opened the northbound side of the 99, but the southbound side remains closed at 7th Standard Road, and traffic is backed up to Lerdo Highway.
The California Highway Patrol is working a major fatal crash on the westbound side of Highway 58 on the Fairfax Road onramp. KGET is reporting four people have been killed in the crash, which involved a tanker truck. On the CHP's website, one person is confirmed dead with three other major injuries. The 58, however, is open in both directions.
