On July 21st-27th, 10 girls from our local city of Bakersfield competed in the International Skating Associations World Figure Skating Competition, bringing home 36 medals, 23 of those medals being 1st, 2nd and 3rd place achievements. This competition comes once every 4 years, and these girls, with their hard-work, dedication, and pure love for the sport went out and gave it their all. Their coach, Kalina Auch (Downs) couldn't be prouder, stating "with over 2,000 figure skaters in this competition, it definitely wasn't easy to podium, the competition was fierce and the judges had high expectations, I am proud to say my girls met these expectations, learning a lot about themselves and the importance of a good attitude and self motivation." Earlier this year the girls also competed in two other competitive events, bringing home a total for this year of 74 medals, 53 of those being 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placements, also receiving the Deanne Laumann award and trophy with their coach for most events entered in the competition. Congratulations to all these skaters for their achievements and always remember to skate to be the best that you can be!
