Philippine Weekend Invitational Basketball Tournament in Delano, July 26-28. Trophies will be awarded for first and second. There are several divisions available to participate in: Heritage (6-feet-2 and under, Filipino Descent), open class, high school varsity boys; and high school varsity girls. Entry fee must be paid in advance. Deadline to sign up is July 13. Heritage and Open Class divisions are $300; high school divisions are $175. Format will be a three-game minimum. The 19th Annual Battle of the Badges boxing matches, pitting an assortment of local fire, police, sheriff’s, California Highway Patrol and corrections officers, is set for 7 p.m. Saturday (May 11) at Bakersfield College. The event, presented by Budweiser and the Bakersfield Police Activities League, is a fundraiser for the Bakersfield PAL. General admission tickets are $20 apiece, and ringside seats are $40.
