VAN NUYS — Bakersfield College used a 13-hit attack and solid pitching from Darion Nunn to beat Los Angeles Valley College 13-2 on Thursday in a Western State Conference South Division game.
The Renegades (20-8 overall, 12-4 WSC South) remained one game behind Glendale in the conference race. Glendale snapped its four-game losing streak and ended College of the Canyons’ 10-game WSC winning streak with a 6-1 win Thursday to remain one game ahead of BC.
Canyons fell to 11-5 in the WSC and dropped out of a second-place tie with BC.
Nunn tossed seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts. Valley (5-22-1, 4-12) scored both of its runs in the ninth. Blayne Ontiveros hit a solo homer for BC leading off the fifth. Kyle Nixon was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Justin Martinez was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Cole Hallum was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
BC travels to Citrus on Saturday, then hosts Citrus on Tuesday. Eight conference games remain.
