Bakersfield Dragons Squirts goalie Harrison Kootstra denies the Jr. Gulls a goal with a quick snap of his glove

The Bakersfield Dragons Squirts came out on top in Saturday’s game against the San Diego Jr. Gulls. The final score was 7-6 in favor of the Dragons.

The Jr. Gulls got on the board first with back-to-back goals, but Dragons Jacob Clanahan and Matthew Perri scored late in the first period to tie it up.

The second period saw multiple goals from both teams. Clanahan struck again with a Power Play goal, followed by points from Landon Riley and Perri for the Dragons. The Jr. Gulls continued to bring the game within a point, but each time, the Dragons would score, ensuring their lead.

Clanahan netted his second hat-trick of the season, with three tallies for the Dragons. Defenseman Aaron Garza got his first of the year as he cut through the defenders and fired one past the goalie.

“It was my first goal,” Garza said. “All the work I’ve put in, and I finally score. It’s exciting!”

The Dragons Squirts face the Jr. Kings Sunday at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center.
