Bakersfield Dragons Squirts battle for the puck against the boards

The Bakersfield Dragons Squirts hosted the California Golden Bears of Burbank Saturday in their first home game of the regular season. The Dragons defeated the Bears in a decisive 8-1 final.

The Dragons got on the board early in the first and maintained control of the game from then on. Two Dragons netted their first goals of the regular season. Tyler Smith, a first-year Dragon, got the game-winner, and Noah Carpenter, a second-year Squirt, fired one in the net from the blue line.

The other six goals came off the sticks of two players, earning each a hat-trick in the match-up. Matthew Perri's three tallies bring his season total to 9 goals in two games. Jacob Clanahan, who got his first hat-trick of the season, shares his success with his dad, Coach Brandon Clanahan.

"My dad and I have been practicing a lot on the iPad," Clanahan explained, referencing an app that allows the user to draw plays on a white board. "I tried remembering all the stuff he's been showing me, and it helped," he added with a smile.

Clanahan, who is a second-year Squirt, says starting off the season with two wins is motivating. "It was a great game," Clanahan said of the win. "Everybody worked hard. I'm pretty sure next game we're going to do just as good."

The Squirts' next game is in Ontario next weekend.
