Knoxville, TN -- The Bakersfield All Stars girls U-12 soccer team representing AYSO Southwest Region 73 participated in the 2012 AYSO National Games hosted in Knoxville, TN.

The All Stars traveled with 9 players and only played with 8 players for all but 1 game as one player became ill during the week and one player was injured.

The All Stars posted a 4 - 1 record in pool play by defeating teams from: Glenview, IL 4 - 1; Alcoa, TN 3 - 0; Somers, NY 7-0; and Chicago, IL 3 - 0. The only loss the team suffered in pool play was to Oahu, HI by a score of 2 - 1.

The All Stars efforts paid off by advancing to the Elite Eight in the quarter finals round by placing 2nd in their pool with a total of 45 points. Rowland Heights, CA placed 1st with 52 points and Oahu, HI placed 3rd with 42 points. Only the 1st and 2nd place teams of each pool advanced to the quarter final round. The All Stars lost to West Palm Beach, FL 1 - 0 in quarter finals but played a great game as the U-12 team was tired and hot to give up a goal in the last few minutes of the game.

The loss advanced the All Stars to the consolation Silver Bracket. The All Stars lost the first game to Pleasant Hill, CA by 3 - 2 and defeated Scott County, TN 1-0 placing the Allstars in 3rd place in the Silver Bracket. The All Stars overall placed seventh out of 28 U-12 girls team.

The girls played fantastic all week considering playing with 8 players for 7 of the 8 matches. Bakersfield should be proud of the Region 73 All Stars as this was a difficult achievement with 8 players in hot and humid weather, sometimes reaching over 100 degrees.
