A local artist has put the finishing touches on the second phase of the Statue of Liberty Mural downtown.

The Downtown Bakersfield Development Corporation will be celebrating the completion of artist Thomas Zachery's work on Friday at 3 p.m. at the mural's site on the corner of 20th and Eye streets.

Open to the public, the celebration will also honor Veterans Day and the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military.

The DBDC will also announce a new project called "Portrait of a Warrior."

Zachery, who was born and raised in Bakersfield, was commissioned by the Arts Council of Kern and DBDC, and he finished the mural this past summer. His work can be found elsewhere in town, including at Wool Growers.
