St. Patrick's Day is already shaping up to be a lucky day for those who want to celebrate. Whether it's with a night out, a cooking class or some shopping, there's plenty going on this Saturday.

Among the many bar parties (with live bands and DJs spanning the music genres) is a new event at The Belle Rae, a downtown event venue in its first year of business. These party pros are bringing their A-game for their "Your Lucky Day" party.

"This is our first (St. Patrick's) event so we're super excited," said Shannon Hough, who owns The Belle Rae with longtime friend Michelle Meadows. "Of course, I always go crazy and above and beyond because I'm an event planner."

The event will be held in the venue's large outdoor area, where there will be a full-service bar, green beer, food, music by DJ Donald Glenn, a cornhole tournament and plenty of fun. It will go from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and has a cover of $10.

"It's different than your average pub, but it's still that vibe," Hough said. "It is a day-drinking day."

The bar is sure to be a hit at the event, and not just because it's where the booze is; the bar itself is a specialty creation by Wyld at Heart Customs, made out of wine and whiskey barrels and old crates, Hough said.

At the bar, there will be green Jell-O shots, green beer and a few specialty signature drinks, including the Irish mule, which swaps in Irish whiskey for the vodka in the usual mule. Buying a round of Jell-O shots will not only make anyone who gets them some new friends, it will also earn them a spin of the prize wheel.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and for an extra $14, guests can enjoy some traditional corned beef and cabbage, by Mossman's Catering. From noon on, there will also be tacos available for purchase from Fuego's Tacos.

"Even on St. Patrick's Day, everyone loves a good taco," Hough said.

To commemorate the event, guests can check out the slow-motion video booth, the newest trend at parties that Hough said is "overriding the photo booth." When finished, the video is sent via text message. The party will also have its own Snapchat filter.

The cornhole tournament will have 32 teams facing off, but spots are going fast. As of press time, there were still a few spaces left. Team registration is $120; the first place team will win $500 and the second $300, while the third will take home a cornhole board of their own. One team spot will be given to the winner of an Instagram giveaway contest, which ends Thursday. Just go find their page (@thebellerae) and tag as many friends as possible for more chances to win.

"It's going to be the best party in town!" Hough said. "People are looking for something new but still want it to feel like they can go and feel that down-home-type feel."

Hough said she and Meadows hope to regularly hold public events like this St. Patrick's Day one and last month's sold-out Valentine's Day event, as it's a chance for people to come to The Belle Rae even if they don't have an event of their own to plan. Hough said Bakersfield has lots of traditions, and she hopes their business' events join them.

Because The Belle Rae, which also sells coffee, pastries and flowers when it's not hosting events, is still new, Hough said a lot of people still ask what exactly it is.

"If you don't know what we're about, you can come check us out," Hough said.
