Prairie Fire, the second floor rooftop deck of the Padre Hotel, will host the inaugural CSUB Alumni Holiday Mixer on Tuesday.

It's the tale of two fundraisers at the Padre Hotel on Tuesday. But in this case it will be the best of times as guests can easily attend both holiday mixers supporting good causes.

Start off heading upstairs to the Prairie Fire outdoor lounge, which will host the CSUB Alumni Holiday Mixer from 5 to 7 p.m.

The event is a gathering for alumni from Cal State Bakersfield as well as their holiday-loving friends in support of the CSUB Food Pantry, which opened in mid-September to address food-insecurity concerns about students and staff. As of Nov. 3, nearly 600 students had used the food pantry. In the first month, 42 percent of pantry customers had been there more than once.

The association is asking attendees to bring a nonperishable food item for the pantry. Non-food items such as microwaveable bowls and cups, utensils and hygiene products are encouraged as well.

Along with supporting a worthy cause, the event will keep the evening fun with live jazz music, appetizers and a cash bar. Admission is $20; tickets are available at

Later, head down to support the Downtown Business Association, which is holding its mixer and casino night in the hotel's Prospect Lounge The lounge's club-like atmosphere will be perfect for the gaming, provided by Bakersfield Casino Rentals, which will consist of two blackjack and one craps table. Gamers will have a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas.

This mixer, running from 5:30 to 8 p.m., supports The Mission at Kern County, and guests are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to donate. Those who contribute will receive a raffle ticket for prizes.

All boys and girls — good or bad — can pose for a photo with Santa. Admission is $10, $7 for DBA members and includes appetizers and one holiday drink. A no host bar will also be offered in the lounge.
