Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! NASCAR fans will want to check out the Kern County Raceway Park this weekend when a driver from the Xfinity Series comes to town.
Ty Majeski will be driving at the fourth annual Winter Showdown at the local raceway on Friday and Saturday. Majeski's entry is sponsored by Jim Burke Ford, where he will also make a special appearance on Thursday morning. (Appearance time has yet to be announced.)
"It is a great opportunity for us to come down," Majeski is quoted as saying in a news release. "Obviously Ford is a big part of my racing career, moving forward. It's cool to have a Ford dealership from out west give us the opportunity to come out there and race with the western guys. I'm excited for one of the biggest Super Late Model races in the country and we are ready to give it our best shot."
Majeski, who is coming from Seymour, Wisconsin, was recently signed to compete in the NASCAR Xfinity series and will compete in a partial schedule in the number 60 Ford Fusion. The 23-year-old driver hasn't been racing in the series for long, starting just last year, but he is already a four-time champion on the ARCA Midwest Tour series, with 19 wins.
He's been behind the wheel since he was 9 years old, though, starting with go-karts and over the years moving on to late models at 15 and super late models three years later. Majeski excelled in each, with a number of titles and wins.
The Winter Showdown starts on Thursday, with practice for all the Super Late Model teams, followed by a qualifying race on Friday. The big event will happen on Saturday, with $30,000 awarded to the winner of the Super Late Model feature.
