It might be a week too late, but it shouldn't matter a bit to the thousands expected to welcome the Monster Trucks to a post-Halloween visit to Bakersfield on Saturday night.

Monster Jam Series champion "Bounty Hunter" and series regular "Iron Outlaw" will be the highlights among a host of trucks competing in the Del Taco "Go Bold" Fall Nationals Truck Spectacular at the Kern County Fairgrounds.

"This year will probably be one of the biggest ones," said Steve Quercio, promoter for the Outlaw Monster Truck Shows. "These guys are national champions that are on TV every week. They haven't been in Bakersfield in 10-12 years."

The event will also feature Mudd Boggs, Tuff Trucks and Quad Racing. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the event scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

"It's hard to say because of the economy, but we're certainly hoping that we have a great turnout because of the trucks we're bringing in and because we want to continue to bring our show to Bakersfield," Quercio said. "We usually have the grandstands three-quarters full and probably 30 percent of them are kids. Mom and dad bringing their kids too the show."

Tickets for the event are $17 for adults, $12 for ages 3-12 and 3-and-under are free. There are also a limited number of VIP seats available for $25 apiece. The first 500 children in attendance will receive a toy Monster Truck, care of Del Taco.

"We'll have some booths and some events and then we let everybody go down at 6 o'clock to meet the drivers, get autographs and take pictures with them," Quercio said. "It's a free pit party pass and everybody is allowed to come down."

In addition to the racing action, the Monster Trucks will show off their power with fan favorites such as wheelie stands where the trucks often reach 30 feet off the ground, and the demolition of a pyramid of cars.

"It's a freestyle competition just like you see on TV," Quercio said. "They're crushing cars and doing donuts. It's just really a fun night of family entertainment."
