What: Flower Show sponsored by the Green Thumb Garden Club

When: Noon to 7 p.m. Saturday

Where: East Hills Mall, 3000 Mall View Road

Bakersfield's Mediterranean climate and long growing season, plus the variety of soils stretching from the southwest to the northeast is a challenge home gardeners enjoy. Come and see what is growing in Bakersfield at the Flower Show sponsored by the Green Thumb Garden Club on Saturday.

More than 120 local members will be exhibiting perennials, biannuals, annuals, bulbs, tubers, corms and rhizomes flowers. Container plants, dish gardens, terrariums and hanging baskets will also be exhibited. See the display of edibles such as herbs, fruit and vegetables. Shrubs grown for blooms, foliage or berries will be displayed as well as flowering tree branches and vines. See ferns, succulents, roses, African violets, callas, day lilies, irises, snapdragons and many other blooms.

If you raise anything that blooms, you may enter a specimen from your garden, for free, between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday. You may even take home a ribbon.

The show will be judged by certified California Garden Clubs, Inc.'s Flower Show judges. For a complete copy of the flower show schedule call 664-9503 or 393-3657.

The flower show schedule includes a division on floral designs. See what local talent can do with blooms, greenery and accessories. Exhibit your talent by calling 833-8176 and reserving a space for your design entry.
