Ingrid Jensen will be the featured guest artist with the CSUB Jazz Ensemble for the 34th Jazz Jam at Cal State on Friday.

Jensen is the trumpet soloist for the Grammy winning-Maria Schneider Orchestra and has topped Downbeat's Talent Deserving Wider Recognition for six years and is a winner of the Juno Award.

The concert will feature the music of Schneider, her sister, Christine, and 2004 Charlie Parker Composition winner Darcy Argue.

There is also a tribute to Michael Brecker.

Jensen also will provide a free clinic, open to all, at 4 p.m. Friday in Cal State's Dore Theatre.

Legendary jazz pianist Marian McPartland said about Jensen: "Ingrid plays trumpet and flugelhorn with all the brilliance and fire of a true virtuoso, following the spirit of the muse as she creates ... warm, sensitive, exciting and totally honest."

Joining the CSUB Jazz Ensemble for the concert, Jensen will be playing the best of contemporary big band music.
